About the River Teifi

The River Teifi, Afon Teifi in Welsh, is a river of west Wales of about 76 miles. It rises at Llyn Teifi in the Cambrian Mountains, passes Strata Florida Abbey and runs through the peat bog of Cors Caron before turning south west. It flows through Tregaron, Lampeter, Llandysul, Newcastle Emlyn and Cenarth, and for most of its length forms the boundary between Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire. The river is tidal below Llechryd, runs through the wooded Cilgerran Gorge to Cardigan, and reaches Cardigan Bay in a broad estuary.
