About the River Wnion

The River Wnion is a river in the south east of Gwynedd of about 12 miles. It begins high on the slopes of Aran Benllyn, some five miles south of Llanuwchllyn, and flows south west past Rhyd-y-main and Bontnewydd, where an 18th century bridge crosses it, to Dolgellau and its Y Bont Fawr. It joins the River Mawddach near Cymer Abbey and is the largest tributary the Mawddach has, draining a big area out towards Aran Fawddwy.
