About Abercothi, Towy and Cothi
Abercothi Fishery fishes about three miles of the River Towy and a mile of the River Cothi, at Nantgaredig, near Carmarthen. The estate divides it into three beats, Llwchgwyn, Abercothi and Junction, and each beat has fishing on both rivers. Rods are allocated a beat and rotate daily from 7am to 7am, with up to five rods on a beat. Almost all of the fishing is double bank. The estate does not publish the limits of each beat, so the position shown is approximate.
The estate describes it as prime sea trout (sewin) water, with forty main named pools including the Junction Pool, and says it is about four miles above the tide limit so most sections usually hold fish through the season. It says to expect sea trout into double figures every year. The fishing is for salmon and sea trout, by fly or spinner. Fishing is permitted on Sundays, and dogs are allowed if they are under control.
The season runs from 1 April to 17 October. A rod is £50 a day in April, £75 in May and £120 from 1 June to 17 October, VAT included, and a whole beat for the day is £200, £300 and £480. Visiting rods can use the rod rooms at no charge, and the estate lets the farmhouse and annexe at Abercothi Farm. Contact the estate to book.
