About Edw Hundred House

The Edw is an upper Wye tributary and, the Passport says, has been one of the most popular trout streams in its scheme, with four beats and around five miles of water. The lower two beats are high gradient and flow quickly over bedrock, a fairly difficult wade with some fine pools and glides, while the upper two run through farmland and are more leisurely and meandering. Hundred House is the furthest upstream of the Edw fishing, where the river is slower and more meandering than the rocky sections downstream. Although the river is small, there are some very deep pools that hold surprisingly large trout. The silt and gravel bed gives good mayfly hatches, and wading is relatively easy, but because of the size of the stream a surreptitious approach is essential. The Passport suggests a rod of six and a half to eight feet rated 2 to 4 weight.
