About the River Edw
The River Edw is a small tributary of the upper Wye in Radnorshire, in Powys. It joins the Wye near Aberedw, a few miles below Builth Wells. The lower reaches are steep and fast over bedrock, with good pools and glides and some difficult wading, while the upper river runs more slowly and meanders through farmland. That has led to it being described as a river in reverse.
There are around five miles of fishing in all, and the Edw has been one of the most popular small trout streams in the Wye and Usk Foundationโs Passport scheme. It holds wild brown trout and is fished with the fly.
