Holbury Lakes Trout Fishery

Holbury Lakes Trout Fishery sits just outside the village of Lockerley in Hampshire, 7.5 miles from Romsey and 10.8 miles from Stockbridge. Four stocked lakes, the Pond, Island Lake, Long Lake and Willow Lake, about 3.25 acres between them, sit either side of the River Dun, which winds between them and is fished here as its own wild, catch-and-release beat.

The lakes are stocked with rainbow and blue trout and are fished catch and kill, sold by the fish: tickets run from two fish at £55 up to a combined lakes-and-river day at £150. The river holds wild brown trout and stays strictly catch and release, dry fly and nymph only, a stricter rulebook than the lakes, which also allow wet fly.

The fishery is open all year, seven days a week, with gates from 8.30am. Fly fishing only, single hook, maximum size 8, and every angler needs a landing net and a priest. Catches go in the return book, including nil returns. Tuition can be arranged in advance, and tackle and rod hire are available for anyone travelling light.

There’s a lodge overlooking the water, a barn for shelter, on-site parking and free tea and coffee.
