About Eggleston Hall
Eggleston Hall is about 3.8 miles of fly fishing on the Tees, run by the Eggleston Hall Syndicate and split into three beats: upper, middle and lower. The Passport describes all three as incredible fly water for salmon, with a mix of water types and many named salmon pools, and says the syndicate also offers superb fishing for brown trout and grayling. It adds that Eggleston is noted holding water for salmon and always offers the chance of a catch, and that fishing during a spate will improve your chances.
Wading is fairly good, but some places can be tricky, especially on the lower beat, and a wading staff is always advised. The Tees rises fast, so check the online river levels and the weather forecast before you go. The upper and middle beats are easy to reach, but the lower beat needs a walk. For trout the page recommends traditional north country spiders, dry flies, and up or down stream nymphing, with streamers also a noted method, on a 9ft or 9ft 6in rod rated 4 or 5. For salmon it suggests a 10ft 7 weight or a 12ft or 13ft double handed rod, with dark red shrimp patterns on low water doubles, or copper tubes and coneheads, and says many of the pools carry depth, so a variety of tips and sinking lines will help.
It is fly fishing only, all species are catch and release and dogs are not allowed. Up to two tickets are sold a day. The tickets listed are a salmon day ticket at ยฃ25 and a winter grayling day ticket at ยฃ25. It is booked through the Fishing Passport.
