About River Wey, Somerset Bridge
Farnham Angling Society’s River Wey fishery at Somerset Bridge lies at Elstead, between Farnham and Milford, where the river passes beneath the road signposted to Peper Harow and Shackleford. The society’s fishery sheet gives about a mile of river upstream of the bridge. It suggests a mobile style of fishing on this small river, which is largely shallow with fast runs into deeper glides, and says chub are the predominant species.
Members are entitled to fly fish here for trout from 1 April to 30 September inclusive. The society says it does not stock this stretch with trout, and lists brown trout, grayling and the occasional rainbow trout among the fish present, with chub, pike, dace, roach, perch, barbel and carp. No dogs are allowed except guide dogs, and there is no camping or fires. It is for members of the society, who can buy guest tickets. The position shown is approximate.
