About Merthyr Tydfil Angling Alliance, Taff and Taf Fawr
Merthyr Tydfil Angling Alliance offers approximately 10 miles of fishing on the Taf Fawr and the main river Taff, lightly stocked early in the year with a good head of natural, hard fighting brown trout. The two rivers converge at Cefn Coed, close to Merthyr Tydfil, to form the Taff. Worm, fly and spinner are permitted.
The Passport describes the Taff from Quakers Yard up to Merthyr Vale as mainly good rural fly fishing and nymphing water, although those methods suit all the beats. Merthyr Vale to Abercanaid is semi-rural, and from Abercanaid to the junction with the Taf Fawr and Taf Fechan it is almost urban.
Two trout can be taken per rod, and anything under 9 inches must be returned (byelaw). Dogs are allowed if kept under control at all times, and the beat is not covered by the wash-off policy. It is booked through the Fishing Passport.
