About The Severn Arms Ithon Beat 1
The Severn Arms Ithon Beat 1 is one of three beats on the River Ithon near the village of Penybont, where the Severn Arms has the fishing rights to four miles of the river, with up to two anglers allowed on each beat a day. The Ithon is a major upper Wye tributary flowing out of the Radnorshire Forest into the main river near Newbridge on Wye, a medium sized river best known for its grayling and trout. Much of it flows leisurely over gravel between open banks, which the Passport says makes large sections of it some of the easiest fishing to reach in the Wye catchment. Each beat gives good opportunities for fly anglers fishing nymphs, dry flies or traditional wets. Parking is around 150 metres from the river.
Salmon and trout spawn in this area in autumn and winter, so anglers are asked not to disturb spawning fish or step close to any redds, and from November to March it is advisable not to wade deeper than the knee.
It is fly fishing only for trout, with a limit of two fish (trout and grayling), trotting for grayling is allowed from 1 October to 2 March, and dogs are not allowed. The trout day ticket costs £18 and the winter grayling day ticket is listed at £16 to £18, with up to two tickets a day. It is booked through the Fishing Passport.
