About the River Ithon

The River Ithon, Afon Ieithon in Welsh, is a major left bank tributary of the Wye in Powys. It rises in the saddle between the western end of Kerry Hill and the hill of Glog and flows south to Llanbadarn Fynydd. It then takes a twisting course south through Llanbister, Llanddewi Ystradenny and Penybont, turns south west, doubles back north towards Crossgates, and resumes a south westerly course past Llandrindod Wells and the site of Cefnllys Castle. It meets the Wye a mile south of Newbridge-on-Wye.
