About Abergavenny Town Water
Abergavenny Town Water is just over a mile of mostly double bank fishing downstream of the Merthyr road bridge in Abergavenny. The beat has a number of salmon pools, runs and glides along its length, which the Passport says suit trout fished either upstream dry, in the traditional downstream Tweed style or with spiders. The river here flows over gravel, so wading is much easier than on other parts of the river.
This is club water, so exclusivity is not guaranteed. Trout fishing is fly only; for salmon, fly fishing and spinning (when byelaws allow) are permitted and bait is not. All species are catch and release and dogs are allowed if kept under control. Professional guides are not permitted to operate on this water. A salmon day ticket costs £25 and a river trout day ticket £15, with up to six tickets a day. Weekly tickets are also sold (salmon £50, trout £35), and a Senior Citizen Week Trout Ticket (£20) is offered, with a qualifying age of 60 years before 3 March in any year. It is booked through the Fishing Passport.
