About Usk Town Water
The Usk Town Water is 2 miles of double bank from Llanbadoc Church to the fields at Llancayo. The Passport calls it a consistently productive stretch, with a number of pools, runs and glides along its length that are good for trout. The river here mostly flows over gravel, so wading is easier than on other parts of the river. Because the water is close to the town there may be other river users, such as dog walkers, on warm summer days, particularly between the bridges, but there is plenty of fishing up and downstream of the town. Season rods also fish the water, so exclusivity is not guaranteed.
It is fly fishing only for trout, with only traditional non-migratory trout fly patterns (maximum hook size 10) and a bag limit of four. Salmon and sea trout fishing is not permitted. There is no night fishing or overnight camping, and dogs are not allowed. A river trout day ticket costs £16, with up to ten tickets a day, and a weekly ticket is also sold (£50). It is booked through the Fishing Passport.
