About River Usk, Gobion beats
These are Crickhowell and District Angling Society’s Gobion beats, Pant y Goitre and Bridge Meadow, in the parish of Llanvihangel Gobion about five miles downstream of Abergavenny. Pant y Goitre is the beat upstream of the bridge and Bridge Meadow the beat downstream. The society says most of the salmon caught on its water in recent years have come from here, and grilse lie in the shallows at the top of the Upper Flats.
The society describes eight named spots, including the Pant y Goitre Croy Pool, the Upper Bridge, which is fly water, the deep Bridge Pool, the Cut, the Upper and Lower Flats and the Bridge Meadow Croy Pool, the main holding pool, which fishes better from the left bank. The croy itself is not part of the beat and you may not fish from it. Parking is on the B4598 by the bridge.
Fishing is for society members only. The society’s pages do not give exact limits, so the position shown is approximate.
