About Dan Y Parc
Dan Y Parc is 1½ miles of double bank trout and salmon fishing on the Usk just downstream of Crickhowell. A large part of the beat can be fished from the bank and wading is relatively easy; if you wade, studded or stud and felt soles are recommended. The Passport says it is widely regarded as one of the finest wild brown trout fisheries on the Usk and one of the most productive of the middle Usk salmon beats.
There are 16 named pools. After late April, when the water is right, it gives a good chance of a salmon; on a falling spate the Rheld and the Butts can be especially productive, and the tail of the farm flats is one of the best catches on the middle river in spring and when fish are running later. In high water a 13 to 14 foot double hander is useful, in medium water a switch or single hander will do. The page advises fishing the farm flats fine and far off, getting the fly right under the far bank without a splash, and says it is not a place for 10 weight lines and deep wading. The Rheld has produced double figure catches in a day in recent years.
It is fly fishing only for trout, two trout may be taken per rod, salmon are catch and release at all times, and dogs are not allowed. No night fishing or overnight camping. Cars only (no campervans, caravans or transit vans), one non-fishing guest is allowed, and no barbecues or camp stoves. A salmon day ticket costs £49 and a river trout day ticket £39, with up to three tickets a day. It is booked through the Fishing Passport.
