About Dufnant
Dufnant is a beat of about a kilometre of single, right bank on the Usk, a short distance downstream of Llangynidr, with a major salmon pool at the bottom end. It sits in a flower rich meadow with beech woods climbing the steep far bank. The bottom third is deeper and suits stalking fish with a dry fly, and the Flats can give exceptional sport on a summer evening. The upper two thirds is made up of runs and short pools that take time to work through; the rises are often splashy and quickly washed away, and it is good water for the nymph.
Every booking has to be agreed by the fishery owner before it is accepted, and an answer can take 48 hours or more, so allow for that if you are planning a late booking. This beat can only be booked by contacting the Fishing Passport: you can see the available dates online, but the booking is not made on the website.
Fly fishing and spinning (when byelaws allow) are for salmon only, and bait is not allowed. Two trout may be taken per rod, salmon are catch and release at all times, hooks must be barbless, and dogs are allowed if kept under control. A salmon day ticket costs £45 and a river trout day ticket £40, with up to two tickets a day.
