About Llangadog
Llangadog water is on the upper half of the Towy, just above Llandeilo, in two beats. The upper beat has about a quarter of a mile of left bank just above and below Llangadog river bridge. The main beat, slightly further down, is around a mile and a half of single and double bank below Manordeilo railway bridge. It includes the Crewil Pool, which the Passport describes as one of the best holding pools on the river and which has produced some very big sea trout (sewin) over the years.
Fly fishing from last light into the dark is a very effective way of catching sea trout, but worm and spinner are also permitted on the Towy. Salmon can be caught from June onwards. The river has a healthy population of juvenile trout between 6 and 10 inches, with fish of 1 to 3 pounds possible, and evening rises with light tackle can give good sport. The upper beat is a steady glide under the bridge outside Llangadog and suits the fly at night. The main beat has several pools and runs, starting at the Railway Bridge pool and ending at the bottom bend.
An all species ticket covers salmon, sea trout or brown trout for 24 hours, from 7am to 7am. This is club water, so exclusivity cannot be guaranteed. The brown trout season ends on 30 September and all sea trout over 23 inches must be returned. Night fishing is permitted and dogs are allowed if kept under control. It is booked through the Fishing Passport.
