About Llanwysg
Llanwysg is 1.1 kilometres of double bank and 400 metres of single bank of the middle Usk, just upstream of the bridge at Crickhowell. It has three main pools, each with a turbulent head running under trees before smoothing into long glides, which the Passport calls perfect for Usk trout fishing. All three pools are worth a cast for a salmon even in lowish water, so the beat suits a day on salmon when the trout are not rising and a day on trout when they are.
Every booking has to be agreed by the fishery owner before it is accepted, and an answer can take 48 hours or more. This beat can only be booked by contacting the Fishing Passport: you can see the available dates online, but the booking is not made on the website.
Fly fishing and spinning (when byelaws allow) are for salmon only, and bait is not allowed. Two trout may be taken per rod, salmon are catch and release at all times, hooks must be barbless, and dogs are allowed if kept under control. A salmon day ticket costs £45 and a river trout day ticket £40, with up to two tickets a day.
