About The Rectory Fishery
The Rectory Fishery is about a mile and a half of right bank and a mile of left bank on the main Wye, some six miles upstream of Hay-on-Wye. The Passport calls it one of the premier upper Wye beats, among the most productive for salmon in this part of the river, with 13 named catches and fish taken at a wide range of flows. Pool notes for salmon are sent once a booking has been made.
For trout and grayling there are dry fly flats, plenty of pocket water and runs better suited to the wet fly. The Bridge Flats or Gravel Catch can give superb dry fly fishing on a summer evening. The beat holds good numbers of grayling and stays open through the winter, with trotting for grayling permitted from 18 October to 2 March. Coarse anglers can expect big chub, dace and pike, and the occasional barbel. Wading is easy on the Gravel Catch and Bridge Flats and harder on the rockier lower half, where studded soles are a must. There are two parking spots, both close to the river, and a guiding service is available through the Fishing Passport.
Salmon are catch and release at all times and the limit is two fish (trout and grayling). Trout fishing is fly only, spinning must be with single hooks, and dogs are allowed if kept under control. Up to four tickets are sold a day. It is booked through the Fishing Passport.
