About Aberbwtran
Aberbwtran is a secluded half mile of left bank on the River Irfon, just downstream of Garth. The river here is a mixture of gravel runs and bedrock gutters, which gives a good variety of wading and fishing conditions. Trout, grayling and chub are all present, so the fishery stays open all year round. The Passport suggests a rod of 7 to 8½ feet rated 3 to 5 weight.
It is a fair walk from the parking area to the bank, just over half a mile, and the Passport says the beat is well worth the effort.
It is fly fishing only, with a limit of two fish (trout and grayling), and dogs are not allowed. The winter grayling day ticket costs £14.50 and a block booking £29, with up to two tickets a day. Waders, nets and tackle must be sprayed with Virkon before and after fishing. It is a Wild Stream beat: it is booked through the Fishing Passport, or fished on a Wild Stream Season Permit.
