About River Dee, Bonwm to Carrog
These are the club’s Dee beats downstream of Corwen towards Carrog. Chain Pool, one of the club’s best salmon beats, is popular with fly fishermen and needs little wading, with a short walk across a field. At the owner’s wish Chain Pool is limited to two anglers, and its upper limit is marked by three white posts. Bonwm Halt, beside it, has no limit on anglers. Bonwm Farm lies a short way downstream, single right bank looking downstream, with two named salmon pools and a choice of fly or spinning. The Wharf is one of the oldest beats, a series of slow deep pools with high banks, mainly a spinning and bait beat where wading is not recommended, and it can be fished in high water when other beats cannot.
Pen y Bont is a winter grayling beat, open from 18 October to 2 March inclusive, fly only. It starts above Carrog Bridge, below The Wharf, on the right bank and runs past the bottom of St David’s, and no more than four anglers may fish it at once, signing in on a peg system. St David’s is another of the main beats, a mixture of slow deep pools, fast broken water, glides and riffles, fished with fly, worm or spinning for salmon and varied tactics for trout and grayling.
Night fishing for sea trout until 3am, fly only, is allowed at Bonwm Farm and St David’s. This water is for members. The club’s 2026 rate for a new adult salmon member is £160 and for trout and grayling £100, each with a £70 joining fee. The position shown is approximate.
