About River Dee, Llangollen town water
This is the club’s Dee water through Llangollen, from the Wild Pheasant Hotel past the town bridge to Lingo Pool. From the Wild Pheasant Hotel to the town bridge the A5 side is mostly trout and grayling water, apart from Top Rock and the deep channels in the park, which the club rates for salmon by all methods. On the opposite bank, from the railway station to just past Jenny Jones island, it describes good trout and grayling fishing with fly or worm, and two good salmon runs just above the Jenny Jones tunnel.
From the town weir to the Tip Pool the water is good for trout and grayling with fly or worm. The Tip Pool is a good salmon pool with a fast run into it, fished with fly or spinner from the A5 side, and the run out of the pool ends in a rocky ledge that fishes well with bait. Rock House Pool is a deep, slow salmon pool for spinning or bait. Lingo Pool is mentioned in George Borrow’s Wild Wales, which calls it one of the deepest on the Welsh Dee, and the club names it as one of the best pools on its water for spinner or bait fished very deep.
Worm fishing for trout and grayling is allowed downstream of the Chain Bridge Hotel. The club’s tariff lists a trout and grayling day ticket at £25 and adult membership at £110. The position shown is approximate.
