About River Dee, Corwen (Long Reach to Town Waters)
These are the club’s Dee beats at Corwen. The Long Reach is trout and grayling water only, fly only throughout the year and one of the oldest club beats. The top is a series of light riffles and the rest a slow to medium glide, popular with dry fly fishermen, with very easy wading. The club closes the beat from 1 November to 31 January, from the upper limit to the A5 bridge, to protect salmon redds, but the Alwen Junction can be fished from 18 October to 2 March. Parking for the beat and the Alwen Junction is by the A5 bridge only.
Caerwyn’s Run, once called the Council Run, is a narrow, fairly fast channel opening into a smooth glide. Salmon anglers fish the top and the bottom suits nymph and dry fly for trout and grayling. The Town Waters are around Corwen itself and are the water that put the club on the map for grayling. They include Clarke’s Pool, Llyn Tro, the Vicarage Pool and the head of Chain Pool, with no fishing on the right bank looking downstream between the end of the Pavilion beat and the start of the Vicarage Pool. The Pavilion and Vicarage Pools are a short, slow and deep salmon spinning beat, with trout and grayling fishing better from the opposite bank.
Night fishing for sea trout until 3am, fly only, is allowed on the Long Reach, Caerwyn’s Run and the Town Waters, but not at the Pavilion and Vicarage Pools. This water is for members. The club’s 2026 rate for a new adult salmon member is £160 and for trout and grayling £100, each with a £70 joining fee. The position shown is approximate.
