About River Dee, Crogen 1, 2 and 3
These are the club’s uppermost Dee beats. Crogen 1 is relatively slow to medium paced water, deep in places, fished mainly for trout and grayling with some excellent salmon pools and some very large grayling, on the left bank looking downstream. Crogen 2 is arguably the most popular of the three, double bank, with slower deep pools, riffles and glides, easy wading and several parking places.
Crogen 3 has produced notable grayling over the years but is fished only occasionally. It is mostly a left bank beat, with a short stretch of right bank from Cilan Bridge downstream, and it has some very good salmon pools and can be productive in winter when the grayling shoal. Cilan Bridge is the upper limit of Crogen 3. The club says there is no way in to Crogen 3 from Branas Isaf, and not to park or reach the river from there.
There is no night fishing on any of the three. This water is for members. The club’s 2026 rate for a new adult salmon member is £160 and for trout and grayling £100, each with a £70 joining fee. The position shown is approximate, around Cilan Bridge, because the club’s pages describe these beats but give no grid reference.
