About River Dee, Cynwyd (Hendwr, Tyfos and Gwnodl Bach)
These are the club’s Dee beats around Cynwyd. Hendwr is a popular upriver beat where the variety of water suits all methods, with slower deeper water, fast riffles and glides, easy wading and good fly water for salmon, trout and grayling, and it is popular with salmon anglers in the last weeks of the season. Tyfos is directly opposite Hendwr on the left bank, with a few more trees and some very deep pools. It is popular for trotting for grayling in winter and gives some extremely large grayling and the odd large brown trout.
Gwnodl Bach and Cynwyd Fechan is one of the club’s most scenic beats, mostly double bank, with slow deep pools, shallow riffles and productive glides. The left bank is slightly longer and the more popular with members, trout and grayling fishing is excellent and a good number of salmon are caught each season. Llyn Du, the Black Pool, lies just outside Cynwyd. It is mainly a small salmon beat, slow moving and extremely deep with no wading possible, best suited to bait and spinning, and the club no longer counts it a prime stretch but says it has taken a great many salmon.
There is no night fishing on these beats. This water is for members. The club’s 2026 rate for a new adult salmon member is £160 and for trout and grayling £100, each with a £70 joining fee. The position shown is approximate.
