About Cefn Rhosan Fawr
Cefn Rhosan Fawr is about 3 kilometres (1.8 miles) of the main Usk immediately downstream of Sennybridge. The fishery also takes in 500 metres of the River Senni and 250 metres of the River Cilieni, two tributaries that run in at either end of the main Usk water. The beat is varied, with deep pools, waterfalls and gentle glides, and the Passport describes first class brown trout fishing. Salmon are also caught here, though later in the season, in September and October. Sea trout (sewin) are rare this far up the Usk.
The lower half of the beat is more open and easier to get around; the top half is more overgrown and gives plenty of cover. Wading is comparatively easy: thigh waders generally do, chest waders cover every case, and stud or felt soles are required. The owner reserves the right to fish one extra rod every day on top of the day tickets.
It is fly fishing only for trout, two trout may be taken per rod, and salmon are catch and release at all times. Dogs are not allowed. A salmon day ticket and a river trout day ticket each cost £20, with up to four tickets a day. It is booked through the Fishing Passport.
