About Llandovery Angling Association
Llandovery Angling Association runs two fisheries on the Towy, above and below Llandovery. Its fishing extends over seven miles above the town, at least half of it double bank. This is club water, so exclusivity is not guaranteed.
The Passport says the upper river is very different from the water below the town: the channel is narrower and runs through rock faced gorges between deep holding pools. Pools such as Dolauhirion, Tairheol and Divlyn have a long reputation for holding salmon and sewin, and for a solitary angler they are exciting to explore, working upstream. The beat has several deep holding pools with productive runs and riffles, plenty of bankside cover for resting fish and room to cast, and the wading is easy and safe over a clean gravel bed.
Sewin can be caught as early as May and are more numerous in July and August, with the main run, often averaging four to five pounds, appearing from the middle of June. In a wet spring large sewin are caught in late April, and fish well over ten pounds have been taken. The latter part of the season offers a better chance of a salmon. The brown trout season ends on 30 September.
Fly, spin and bait fishing are permitted, night fishing is permitted, salmon are catch and release at all times and dogs are not allowed. It is booked through the Fishing Passport.
