About River Elwy, Pont y Ddol
Pont y Ddol is a long beat on the River Elwy above and below Pont y Ddol road bridge, owned by Rhyl and St Asaph Angling Association, about 2,900m of left bank. The association says it often yields fish and that sea trout and salmon reach it sooner than you might expect given the right water, with some nice pools and runs, and a walk to reach some of them. The stretch upstream of the bridge is strictly for members.
Booking is not required, and day tickets are not sold, so this beat is fished by members. Parking is at Ddol Farm, where the river is reached on foot down the drive, or at a members’ area near the bridge with a rough track that needs a 4x4. There is a restricted area below the power lines downstream of Rock Pool where fishing is not allowed. The beat sits on the Denbighshire and Conwy boundary, and the position shown is approximate.
