About fly fishing in Flintshire
Fly fishing in Flintshire, as we list it, means two trout lakes and no rivers yet. We list only part of the county, and only stillwaters there today. Each water has its own rules and tickets, so check the page for the one you plan to fish.
Wal Goch Fishing is a little over two acres of spring fed water on Wal Goch Farm, near Nannerch. It is typically about 6 feet deep, shallower in the north west corner and deeper at the south east end towards the dam. The fishery stocks rainbow trout from 1.5lb up to double figures, and the lake also holds brown trout. Fishing is fly only, from the bank, with no wading, and hooks must be barbless or de-barbed. A permit covers one rod for up to 8 hours and is priced by the number of fish you want to take: £35 for 3 fish, £30 for 2 and £25 for 1. A sport ticket at £20 is for fishing without taking any fish. Junior tickets are available on request, and there is parking within 50 metres of the water.
Forest Hill Trout Farm and Fishery has four shaded lakes at Downing, near Mostyn, stocked with home reared rainbow and brown trout from the farm. You can fish with a fly, or with worm only, which is sold on site. The fishery does not publish its prices. They are on application, so call before you go. It is open every day except Christmas Day and Boxing Day, and the shop sells fresh trout.
For a first visit, Wal Goch suits anyone who wants clear prices and fly only rules. Forest Hill suits someone happy to ring ahead and fish a farm lake where worm is allowed.

Fish species in Flintshire
What the beats above hold, and where else in England you can fish for the same species.
Three different kinds of operator, and most visitors want the first. A fishery or estate owns the water and sells you a day on it. A club or syndicate holds water for its members, sometimes with day tickets alongside. A guide or agent sells days on water somebody else owns, and often comes with you.

Finding fly fishing near you in Flintshire
The map above plots Flintshire's beats and fisheries against the county boundary, so you can see roughly how far a stretch is rather than just its name on a list. Tap a marker for a quick read on price and species before you go further. If you're weighing this county against somewhere else, or want to see every day-ticket beat in the country at once, the full beat map covers all of them.
A day ticket is usually a half day or a full day on the water, so it's worth weighing the drive against how much fishing you'll actually get out of it. A longer trip makes more sense for a full day than for two or three hours in the afternoon.
