About fly fishing in Surrey
Surrey’s fly fishing on FishingBeats comes in two kinds. The day tickets are on trout stillwaters: Albury Estate Fisheries, Frensham Trout Fishery, Birtley Lake and Halliford Mere. The trout fishing on the River Wey that we list is members’ club water, so a visitor without a club place will usually be fishing a lake.
At Albury, Weston Lakes and Vale End are open to day members, and Powdermill is for season members. You pay for a membership and then for fish tokens, and each fish you catch uses one. A day membership is £17, so a day with two tokens comes to £45, and season membership is £240 for 2026/27. There is no catch and release on the trout lakes. Frensham has six stream fed lakes at Churt. Day tickets are £55, £62 or £69 for one, two or three fish to keep, and then you can carry on catch and release up to 8 fish.
Birtley Lake at Bramley has 500 yards of bank, stocked mainly with brown trout and some rainbows, and is open from 1 April to 31 October. Halliford Mere at Shepperton is four spring fed lakes, primarily catch and release, though you may take up to two rainbows a session at £5 a pound over your ticket. It opens from October to June, depending on water temperature.
On the Wey, Peper Harow Park Fly Fishers limit membership to 55, and anyone interested contacts the Hon Secretary. River Wey Fly Fishing has a maximum of 40 paying members and is taking names for its 2027 waiting list. Membership for 2027 is £240. Godalming Angling Society says it has no waiting list, and for 2026 to 2027 a senior single membership is £160 plus a £75 fee for new members. Its Winkworth Fly Fishers section fishes Rowes Flashe by boat. Farnham Angling Society issues no day tickets. Grayshott Angling Club offers wild brown trout on the North Wey at Wrecclesham, strictly catch and release, for £45 membership, a £10 joining fee and a £10 fly fishing addition.
Leigh Mill Fishing is a private fly only club on a three acre lake near Godstone, with a waiting list and no day tickets.

Fish species in Surrey
What the beats above hold, and where else in England you can fish for the same species.
Three different kinds of operator, and most visitors want the first. A fishery or estate owns the water and sells you a day on it. A club or syndicate holds water for its members, sometimes with day tickets alongside. A guide or agent sells days on water somebody else owns, and often comes with you.

Finding fly fishing near you in Surrey
The map above plots Surrey's beats and fisheries against the county boundary, so you can see roughly how far a stretch is rather than just its name on a list. Tap a marker for a quick read on price and species before you go further. If you're weighing this county against somewhere else, or want to see every day-ticket beat in the country at once, the full beat map covers all of them.
A day ticket is usually a half day or a full day on the water, so it's worth weighing the drive against how much fishing you'll actually get out of it. A longer trip makes more sense for a full day than for two or three hours in the afternoon.
For scale, the River Wey rises near North Wey at Alton, Hampshire; South Wey near Haslemere. Beats sit further downstream from there, not at the source itself. The map above is the more exact guide to which stretch is closest to you.
