About fly fishing in Isle of Anglesey
Fly fishing on Anglesey, as we list it, means two lakes and no rivers. Both are fly only, and they fish very differently. We list only part of the county, and each water has its own rules, tickets and season, so check the page for the one you plan to fish. A Natural Resources Wales rod licence is needed.
Llyn Cefni is a reservoir in the middle of the island, about 212 acres. It holds wild brown trout and stocked rainbows, and it is run by Cefni Angling Association. It is booked through the Fishing Passport, which sells bank tickets and boat tickets on separate pages. The season runs from 20 March to 17 October. It is one rod per angler, with a daily bag of six fish, no more than three of them brown trout, and none under 10 inches. Once six are caught and kept, you stop. There is a private car park, a fishing hut and toilets. The club issues its rules with booking and asks for a phone number, and the Passport suggests reading them before you buy. We have no prices on our page, so check the Passport.
Llyn Coron is a different sort of water: an 80 acre natural lake about a mile and a half north east of Aberffraw, with wild brown trout and sea trout (sewin). The fishery says it is not run like a commercial stocked lake and asks you to treat it as a wild one. It is catch and release only, on barbless hooks, from 21 March to 17 October, dawn to dusk, and under 18s fish free. There are no boats for hire, though you can bring a float tube or kayak at your own risk. The lake sits in an SSSI and SAC and the banks are left uncleared, so from May to September getting to the water can be a scramble. Wading is often needed. The north and east banks are the easiest. Permits are bought on the fishery’s website, which is where to check the price.
For a first visit, Cefni suits anyone who wants a boat or stocked rainbows. Coron is for the angler who is happy to work for a wild fish.

Three different kinds of operator, and most visitors want the first. A fishery or estate owns the water and sells you a day on it. A club or syndicate holds water for its members, sometimes with day tickets alongside. A guide or agent sells days on water somebody else owns, and often comes with you.

Finding fly fishing near you in Isle of Anglesey
The map above plots Isle of Anglesey's beats and fisheries against the county boundary, so you can see roughly how far a stretch is rather than just its name on a list. Tap a marker for a quick read on price and species before you go further. If you're weighing this county against somewhere else, or want to see every day-ticket beat in the country at once, the full beat map covers all of them.
A day ticket is usually a half day or a full day on the water, so it's worth weighing the drive against how much fishing you'll actually get out of it. A longer trip makes more sense for a full day than for two or three hours in the afternoon.
Fly fishing lessons and tuition in Isle of Anglesey
FishingBeats doesn't list fly fishing schools or dedicated instructors: the agents and guides above are the ones selling day tickets and guided days on Isle of Anglesey's beats. Some may be willing to teach alongside a day out even where it isn't sold as a separate product, so it's worth asking rather than assuming either way. That's a different thing from starting from scratch, though: a guided day generally assumes you can already cast, where a lesson teaches the cast itself, and most UK fly fishing lessons for that begin on a stillwater rather than a river. How tuition, guided days and courses fit together is covered on the agents page. Once you can put a fly out, easy beats rated for a first visit or beats where you can arrange a ghillie are a reasonable next step, and a few beginner-friendly beats to start on is worth reading before you book.
