About fly fishing in Nottinghamshire
Nottinghamshire’s fly fishing on FishingBeats is all lake fishing, and all of it is for members. We list no day ticket water in the county, so a visit means joining a club or going as a member’s guest.
Trinity Lakes Fly Fishing runs two lakes of 9 and 12 acres, about eleven miles east of Nottingham. The trout season is 1 February to 30 November and the lakes are stocked throughout it. Day tickets are issued only for members’ guests, and the secretary can arrange a guided visit for anyone thinking of joining.
Nottingham Fly Fishers’ Club fishes Gibsmere Lake, about 14 acres between Bleasby and the Trent. It is stocked six times in the season with rainbow, blue and brown trout, and the season normally runs from 1 March to the end of November. The club restricts its numbers, so ask the Membership Secretary through its website for the subscription and the length of any waiting list.
Derbyshire County Angling Club also holds Nottinghamshire water: Tiln Lake (22 acres) and Sutton Lake (17 acres), both near Retford, and Farm and Widgeon Lakes at Hoveringham, which are stocked with brown and rainbow trout. The club gives the season on all of them as all year. Full membership covers both game and coarse fishing across the club’s waters.

Fish species in Nottinghamshire
What the beats above hold, and where else in England you can fish for the same species.
Three different kinds of operator, and most visitors want the first. A fishery or estate owns the water and sells you a day on it. A club or syndicate holds water for its members, sometimes with day tickets alongside. A guide or agent sells days on water somebody else owns, and often comes with you.

Finding fly fishing near you in Nottinghamshire
The map above plots Nottinghamshire's beats and fisheries against the county boundary, so you can see roughly how far a stretch is rather than just its name on a list. Tap a marker for a quick read on price and species before you go further. If you're weighing this county against somewhere else, or want to see every day-ticket beat in the country at once, the full beat map covers all of them.
A day ticket is usually a half day or a full day on the water, so it's worth weighing the drive against how much fishing you'll actually get out of it. A longer trip makes more sense for a full day than for two or three hours in the afternoon.
